Description

In order that the Knights Templar recognize themselves, Eugene III granted the right to wear permanently the cross. This simple cross, but anchored or pattee, depicted the Christ’s martyr. It was red because this colour is the symbol of blood poured by the Christ, but also symbol of life. The shape of crosses was at the discretion of the dignitaries and the commanders.
