Description

The Celtic High Cross is one of the best known symbols of Ireland. Dating from around the 8th to the 10th centuries, they are found throughout Ireland on old monastic sites. Made from sandstone or granite, they were mostly ornamental, but were also used as boundary markers and later for educational purposes and as meeting points for religious ceremonies.
